What about satellites, weather balloons and Doppler radar?
- Geo Satellites only provide 2-Dimensional measurement and lack vertical wind measurements
- Weather balloons take very sparse (on a global scale), in-situ data, only fly twice per day and don’t fly at the poles
- Doppler radar has limited range, and covers very little area of the poles and open oceans

Developed new, more accurate remote sensing technique to determine the intensities of powerful tropical cyclones based on Carnot engine model. Directed NASA support staff and the crew of the ISS to acquire photography of over 80 tropical cyclones.
